The upper dispenses with the usual saddle in the midfoot area and lets the pigskin and synthetic overlays flow freely from heel to toe over the mesh underlay. The result is a fast-paced, dynamic look. But while the revised design of the 990 testifies to an unprecedented, drastic change from one model generation to the next, the biggest leap in development takes place inside the shoe. The newly introduced FuelCell midsole cushioning ensures that the further development of the 990 can not only be felt, but also becomes visible.
